Local Spotlight: Parents Engaged in Education

In February, I was delighted to join local charity, Parents Engaged in Education (PEIE), to celebrate the opening of Canada's First Education Bank, right here in Scarborough – Rouge Park. An education bank operates similarly to a food bank by providing learning necessities to those who are in need.

PEIE is a Scarborough-based charity, founded by Theresa Pastore, working to reduce barriers faced by young people in accessing education resources. When the pandemic began, PEIE produced and distributed 2,000 Learn at Home Kits for students across our City. The Kits contained books and educational games to encourage learning while students were out of school.
