Park Improvements in Scarborough – Rouge Park
Bob Loptson Playground
Last week, the City began removal of old playground equipment from the Bob Loptson Playground at the West Rouge Park. Thanks to the input from over 700 West Rouge survey respondents, we were able to secure accessible enhancements, in addition to the base playground design, shown in the image above. Accessible enhancements include rubber tiles instead of cedar weave surfacing in the play area, brighter colours throughout the play structure, an accessible swing seat, an accessible spinner cup and more seating around the play area. Construction will take place over the next six weeks. I look forward to cutting the ribbon with you this spring!
Port Union Village Common Park
Following advocacy from our office and community members, the City is replacing the ageing and underutilized rubber concrete mounds beside the playground with new outdoor fitness equipment for adults. The new equipment will include double push-up bars, double pull-up bars, a long bench and more. To learn more about this park enhancement, click here.
Construction will also take place at the Highland Creek Park playground and Viola Desmond Park this season. I look forward to sharing updates later this year.
