Eglinton East LRT Update

The EELRT (orange dashed lines) will extend the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit by 15 kilometres from Kennedy Station to Malvern, with up to 21 stops and three connections to GO Transit. To demonstrate our commitment to the EELRT, Toronto City Council has allocated $1.2 billion in funding, which brings us closer to securing the estimated $4.2 billion needed for the project. Advocacy continues to the Provincial and Federal Governments for their support.

As a next step, the City of Toronto has initiated a Transit Project Assessment Process for the EELRT to complete the technical studies required by the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks by Q4 2022. This process has identified several issues that must be resolved in partnership with Metrolinx. There is a need for a joint constructability exercise to resolve interface conflicts between the approved EELRT alignment and the Scarborough Subway Extension (green dashed lines) at Kennedy Station. In addition, the City of Toronto would like to discuss the potential of using the Provincial lands at 8304 Sheppard Avenue East for the Vehicle Maintenance and Storage Facility.

To resolve these issues, I brought forward a motion at the February Council meeting, seconded by Major John Tory, requesting that Metrolinx participate in a joint constructability exercise with the City of Toronto. You can read the motion here
