zooshare biogas plant
I was delighted to attend the March 11, 2019 announcement of up to $2.7 million in federal funds to invest in the expansion of the ZooShare biogas power plant at the Toronto Zoo in our Ward. The ZooShare plant takes poop from animals at the Zoo to generate electricity for our grid and fertilizer.
This is the first and only zoo-biogas plant in North America. I think this is a positive, innovative, and interesting project that will create jobs, help the environment, and expand the already large local footprint of the Zoo.
Up to $2.7 million to be invested, subject to a formal funding agreement.
The money will be used to add new digester technology to the plant.
The money comes from the Low Carbon Economy Fund.
